No Worries- John and Cindy McCain have Credit Card Debt too

On Friday, June 13, Senators and Presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain released their Senate financial disclosures.

Guess what- John McCain and his wife Cindy McCain have credit card debt.  That shouldn’t be a surprise, because a lot of Americans have credit card debt.  However, not a lot of Americans have owed $225,000 on their credit cards like the McCains.

Here’s an excerpt of the article found from MSNBC.com:

“Senators John McCain and Barack Obama released their Senate financial disclosure statements on Friday, revealing that Mr. McCain and his wife had at least $225,000 in credit card debt and that Mr. Obama and his wife had put more than $200,000 into college funds for their daughters.

The bulk of the McCains’ obligations stemmed from a pair of American Express credit cards that are held in Cindy McCain’s name. According to the disclosure reports, which present information on debts in a range rather than providing a precise figure, Mrs. McCain owed $100,000 to $250,000 on each card.

Another charge card, held by what was described as a “dependent child,” had also accumulated debts of $15,000 to $50,000. In addition, a credit card held jointly by the couple was carrying $10,000 to $15,000 in debt, the filing indicated, at a stiff 25.99 percent interest rate.”

Wow…now we all know that Cindy McCain is ballin’ out of control.  Like, seriously ballin’.  Not ballin’ on a budget like some rappers; not ballin’ from Peter so I can front to Paul like some of us do.  She’s got FOR REAL money.  I wonder what it’s like to have so much money that having credit card debt of AT LEAST $225,000 isn’t a real issue.

In all seriousness, there’s so much that I could do with the $225,000 that she owes.  I could give to Jesus, pay off school loans, pay off my car loan, and pretty much pay cash for a house.

So finding this out makes me feel SLIGHTLY better.  Cindy and John McCain have debt like regular Americans.  LOTS of it.  The only difference is that they could pay it off and not feel any pinch…

obama ’08: yes, we can

I’ve struggled to write this post, not because I didn’t want to; but because it has been so difficult for me to express how my thoughts.  While I haven’t been thoughtless, the excitement of this moment has left me relatively speechless.

Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.

Well duh, you probably already knew that if you’re a person who’s half breathing.

I always thought that at some point in my life, there would be a black president.  I just didn’t think it would be this soon.  Perhaps the reality of racism, lack of opportunity for some, and the pervasiveness of poverty that still inhabits the black community discouraged me.  Perhaps it was the fact that everyone hyped up Hillary Clinton.  Maybe it just seemed to soon.

But it’s not.  And it’s incredible.

I remember watching the speech that Senator Obama gave in 2004, at the Democratic National Convention, and thinking, “this guy is gonna do something amazing one day.”  Here we are, 4 years later, and amazing has happened.

The genuine desire for change in America, the belief that the way things are is not how they have to be resonates well with me- along with many other Americans.  There’s a large amount of dissatisfaction in this country with the way things are, and I think that we all have gotten accustomed to the status quo.  More than anything, I’m excited to see my country energized and excited about the political process, discussing the candidates, and paying attention instead of passively watching it all pass us by.

All things considered…now until November will be very interesting and exciting.
