Olympics: We’re moving on, we’ve had more than enough – Opinion

An opinion article that I found HILARIOUS while reading the DTH this morning…

excerpt:

“Dear Olympics,

We’re not really sure how to do this, so we’ll just go ahead and say it – we think maybe it’s time for us to start seeing other events. Please don’t make this any harder than it has to be. Believe us, we’ve thought long and hard about this, and we think this is for the best.

Don’t get us wrong, it’s been a great run. We always will cherish the memories of our time together, such as Jesse Owens, Flo-Jo, the Dan and Dave debacle and of course
the great Miracle on Ice…

You see, in our culture we don’t like anything unless commercials and big companies tell us to like them. That’s just a part of who we are, and you are going to have to respect that.

Why do you think we don’t like soccer? Every four years you show up with your Summer Olympics, all excited about soccer. Every four years you try to tell us that it’s the most popular sport in the world, and every four years we pretend to care. The only reason we even acted interested in the first place was because you lied and called it “football.”

Don’t tell us you really thought we liked it. Remember all those times you thought you were making us scream, “Goal, Goal, GOOOOAAAALLLL!” We were faking it -every time. Did you really think you were rocking our world with a whole 30 seconds of actual action every two hours?…”

…funny huh? tell me your thoughts about the Olympics. I’m personally not a fan of Winter Olympics, and as I get older, the Summer Olympics has become less and less interesting to me. Could it be because the US is losing its athletic stronghold?

  1. It’s because Black people don’t do cold weather.

  2. Personally, when I think of the olympics I think of Summertime and basketball since that’s my favorite part. But my dad won’t even watch basketball, he just waits for the World Cup(and I don’t know if this is part of the olympics) because he loves soccer. I just think it depends on the person…what he/she likes the most. But I do think the US is losin its stronghold in the olympics and that may have something to do with lack of publicity we here about it

  3. i had enough of the olympics & i havent even watch an event yet! they’re getting in the way of my shows >8-{

  4. I don’t think it’s a disconnect with the olympics in general, just with the Winter Olympics.

    Ratings for the Summer Olympics in Athens in 2004 were among the highest in history. America just doesn’t enjoy cold weather sports as much as warm weather sports.
