We should follow God’s will and segregate ‘mockers’ – Letters to the Editor

The above was a letter written to the Daily Tar Heel and appeared in today’s paper.

Is anyone else bothered by what it says? Things such as the following:

“We white English-speaking people would have a much better society if we were segregated as we were in the 1950s.”

“Today there are many anti-white, anti-European elements in our society mocking and hurting us, all the way from the man who recently went on a rampage at UNC to the gangs of thugs who target white people in robberies and assaults.”

“We desperately need the right to segregate our people in all areas of life to protect our young and our future from harmful negative influences just as Abraham and Sarah protected their son Isaac.”

Say it ain’t so. Please say it ain’t so. It’s 2006. Say it ain’t so. Thoughts from others are welcome and encouraged. I’m nearly speechless on this letter…

God-chaser. NC native, now planted in Jacksonville, FL. Happily married to a handsome church-planting pastor. I am easily excited by Jesus, education, cupcakes, Moleskine notebooks, and Pepsi. Overwhelmed by God's amazing grace, undeserving of His love and mercy.

  1. we WERE segregated before ya’ll had to be fast and steal people from their native land and then come to the new world acting like natives weren’t already here.

the DTH is getting whack. they only printed this to stir controversy. that’s whack. no one wins from posting this.

  2. evidently the guy who wrote this is a pit-preacher type who is from Greenville.

He’s sent in letters to nearly every major paper in North Carolina over the last five years.

  3. i’m mad he’s a UNC alum…among other things. i’d hate to be schmoozing with him at homecoming.

  4. I think this is definitely evidence of the stupidity that so many people try to deny the existence of. As much “progress” that has occurred, there is still soooooo far to go.

As for this particular person’s comments, I think that they’re just angry, and displacing that anger in the wrong direction. “They need a social worker 😉 ;-)”

But seriously, it definitely saddens me when I am reminded of the fact that it is in fact the year 2006, and people still think this way. However, I guess that if you keep it in perspective it really wasn’t that long ago that our nation, and even our beloved university embraced segregation. Definitely something to think about.

How far have we really come?

  5. I’d say a lot of people win from the DTH publishing this, Gene. We can either ignore idiots like the letter-writer and pretend they’ll go away, or we can put their ideas out in public and let people see for themselves that they STILL do exist, that there’s STILL work to be done on all sides when it comes to race relations.

  6. But these types of idiots don’t need the media’s help. Anyone at UNC with eyes can see that racism still exists – the oldest public university in the country didn’t recognize its slaves until the 21st century; people of color make up less than 15 percent of the UNC population, but more than 30 percent of the state’s population; the race issue is ALWAYS going to come up during SBP or Homecoming elections. If publishing something like this opens anyone’s eyes, it’s only a few. More often than not someone like this will be dismissed as crazy or as a prankster. Or even worst, the people who really are that blind, probably don’t even read the DTH on a regular basis anyway. We need to encourage REAL dialogue, not cheap examples of extremism.
