Favor Ain’t Fair

I’ve always heard people say “favor ain’t fair” when talking about how God bestows his blessings. While I have always agreed, I would say that I haven’t always felt that I have found favor with God. However, lately I have really been getting a better understanding of how true it is that favor isn’t fair.

As I have grown and as I look back over the years, I can honestly say that I am SO grateful for the favor of God in my life. It’s not anything that I can explain, but when I look at some people in my family; situations they’ve been through, obstacles they’ve had to overcome…it really amounts to the tremendous favor of God. There’s not much that separates me from my family members. We grew up in the same area. Went to the same schools. Made some of the same bad decisions. Yet, I’m in Georgia, with a Master’s degree; a job, making it in the world…with no kids or anything like that. And it’s not to say anything negative about my family or other people, but I can definitely recognize the favor of God in my life.

I came to the conclusion that it must now be my responsibility to act on that- to uphold my end of the bargain with God. Favor isn’t fair…but it’s not free, either. As Luke 12:48 says, “… From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.”

Wishing you the best of God’s blessings and his favor! Be encouraged!

Is it favor or obedience that explains the divergent paths?

I don’t even know if I would say it’s obedience, because I KNOW there have been MANY, MANY times when I’ve disobeyed God.

I can’t say its obedience either…I’ve not always been obeidient and some of my decisions should have me living a completely different life. Favor ain’t fair… but I think it extends from what God’s purpose is for our life…

It’s never really obedience, because our righteousness is like “filty rags” to him. So even when he is rewarding our “obedience,” receiving his favor is still an act of grace and mercy and has litte – if anything – to do with us.

It’s easy not to feel favored when comparing yourselves or just looking at how “not great” your situation is. But when you compare yourselves to some not so great people, and look at how “not great” someone else’s situation is, you can realize how favored you are.

Gene, are you REALLY pubbing ybpguide.com here? Seriously, I have listed as a link. Just had to call you out there πŸ˜‰

But yeah, I definitely agree with Twilla that it has something to do with God’s purpose for our lives. Perhaps when we are seeking the purpose He has for us, it opens us up to receive God’s favor even moreso than others who are not. I’m not sure…

My bad Erin. I keep forgetting you were going there before me. LOL.

LOL at Gene…I just felt like I was around the Harambee circle or in a BSM meeting where someone would make a shameless plug for something…

    Love you, Gene!

I completely agree…I guess that’s what I meant, but didn’t say it correctly. Erin said, “Perhaps when we are seeking the purpose He has for us, it opens us up to receive God’s favor even more so.” I know that everything I have has nothing to do with what I’ve done or not done, but actively trying to seek his will is obedience in my opinion and that is what leads to increased favor or diverging paths. I know that we are all blessed, but there is definitely additional reward in obedience.
